The academy is easily accessible with public transport. You can take the metro 51, 53 or 54 to metro station Spaklerweg. From there it is a 2 minute walk to the academy.
Another option is taking the train or the bus to the station Amsterdam Amstel. From there it is about 10 minutes walking to Academy.

There are paid parking spots right in front of the academy.

FAQ

Do I need any prior (martial arts) experience?

No prior experience is needed. In fact, many of our members did not have any experience before starting with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Are the classes suitable for beginners?

All classes except for open mat are suitable for beginners. During class, the techniques are done together with a partner and chances are that you will partner up with an experienced student. On top of that the instructor(s) will pay close attention during the techniques and help you out. The fundamental classes are the best fit for complete beginners.

How many trial classes are there?

The first trial class is free. For most people the first class already gives them the a good impression of what the sport of BJJ is about and if they want to continue.

What do I need to get started as a member?

Once you become a member, you’ll need a BJJ gi and belt. We also recommend wearing a rashguard. For your first class you can borrow a gi and belt. After that you’ll need to get your own gi so we have enough gi’s available for trial classes.

What is the minimum age to start with BJJ classes?

The adult classes are most suited from the age 15 years and up. We also offer kids classes for the ages 6 to 13 years

Where can I buy a BJJ gi and othersports gear?

What do I need to bring for my first class?

For your first BJJ class the academy will provide you with a BJJ gi (outfit). You can bring a comfortable t-shirt, drinking bottle and slippers/flip-flops. There are showers available for after training.

In what language are the classes?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy Amsterdam has an international group of students and therefore the main language during class is English. The instructors are fluent in English and Dutch.

How do I become a member at BJJAA?

You can buy a membership through our membership page. After buying a membership, you will get access to our member portal.

Do I need to be fit to start with BJJ?

Definitely not. Training BJJ is a good way to get fit though. Over time you’ll see an improvement in your overall fitness level. Of course, it helps when you’re already fit, but we have people with different fitness levels training with us.

Do you have women-only BJJ classes?

Women-only BJJ classes are every Tuesday from 17:30 – 18:30. This class is taught by instructor Rose.

What are the belt ranks in BJJ?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has the following rank system: white ->blue -> purple -> brown -> black

Am I too old to get started with BJJ?

We doubt that. With the right attention and training attitude BJJ is accessible for almost all ages.

Do I need any protective equipment during BJJ training?

Some students wear a mouth-guard during sparring or ear guards. However, these are not mandatory and it is up to you whether you want to use them.
